Moses Znaimer’s ZoomerMedia has announced it’s acquired Freshdaily Inc., owner and publisher of Toronto digital news and culture site, blogTO.
“Thus far we have been edging our analog radio, TV, and magazine products and audiences into the digital domain,” said Znaimer, Founder and CEO of ZoomerMedia, in a release. “In aggregate our digital properties today deliver over 50 million page views a year. This acquisition will add 350 million+ such views (and growing rapidly) and is also intended to kickstart a suite of new, mobile-friendly, digital offerings that we will soon announce.”
“I’m a known believer in the local,” continued Znaimer. “Zoomer Radio and Classical FM already bring local news and life to the older demo. blogTO does that for the younger cohorts. Together they make a complete offering, for the public as well as the advertiser.”
Founded in 2004 by Tim Shore, blogTO purports to reach 6 million users a month and boasts 2.5 million follows across key social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, including 360,000 followers on TikTok. Shore says the sale marks “an exciting new chapter” for the publication.
“Combining our digital experience and capabilities with the resources of ZoomerMedia will allow us to quickly expand in ways that would not have been possible otherwise. I particularly look forward to working with Moses and am confident his unparalleled industry experience and creative vision will help us grow and evolve in innovative and unexpected ways,” said Shore.
Znaimer, the visionary behind Citytv and MuchMusic, among other media properties, founded ZoomerMedia in 2008 which encompasses television channels like VisionTV, ONETV, FAITHTV and JoyTV; Toronto-area radio stations The New Classical FM and Zoomer Radio; and 45+ lifestyle publication, ZOOMER Magazine, as well as Southern Georgian Bay quarterly On The Bay Magazine, and TONIC, a free Toronto health and wellness magazine published six times a year. ZoomerMedia also operates a tradeshow and conference division, running lifestyle expos like the ZoomerShow and ideaCity conference.
Beyond the benefits of bringing blogTO in-house to appeal to a younger demographic, ZoomerMedia says it plans to accelerate its production of daily digital video content.
It says revenue and cost synergies are expected from audience integration and cross-selling of multi-platform offerings across online, radio, TV, print, as well as shows and conferences.
