Rogers outlines plans to launch new channels

Rogers Communications has outlined plans to launch TV channels for HGTV, Food Network, Magnolia, Discovery ID, Discovery, and Bravo.

The move follows Rogers’ coup earlier this year that saw the cable provider scoop brand and content licencing rights to Warner Bros. Discovery’s suite of English-language U.S. lifestyle and factual brands from Corus Entertainment and Bell Media.

It also inked a multi-year deal to become the English-language TV content rights holder to NBCUniversal’s Bravo channel in Canada.

Bravo is now available to subscribers of Rogers’ Ignite TV, among other cable providers, and its offerings soon available to stream via Citytv+ through Amazon Prime Video Channels. The channel largely carries unscripted reality content like new seasons of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, The Real Housewives of New York City, Below Deck Sailing Yacht, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Southern Charm, The Real Housewives of Potomac, Top Chef, and Vanderpump Rules.

Starting Jan. 1, Rogers will launch TV channels for HGTV, Food Network, Magnolia, Discovery ID, and Discovery. Content from Cooking, OWN, Motor Trend, Animal Planet, and Discovery Science will be available on demand and via Citytv+ on Amazon Prime Video Channels.

“We’re delivering the best combination of linear channels and on-demand content from these coveted brands, building on Rogers investment to bring Canadians the best sports and entertainment in the way they want to watch it,” said Colette Watson, President, Rogers Sports & Media, in a company announcement.

The Warner Bros. Discovery deal is the subject of ongoing legal action. Bell is seeking an injunction that would prohibit the broadcast of linear channels it formerly held the rights to for a period of two years, including Discovery, MotorTrend, Science, Animal Planet and ID.
