Sevaun Palvetzian is joining Rogers as Chief Communications Officer, leading communications and corporate social responsibility across wireless, cable, business services, TV, radio and sports. Palvetzian has been CEO of Toronto social not-for-profit CivicAction for the last six years. Prior to that, she worked in strategy and communications with the Government of Ontario.
Colette Cada, who had been an account manager with Rogers Vancouver since 2008, has left media to join Matrix Design Graphics as their business development manager. In addition to a prior sales stint with Rogers’ CKKS-FM, Cada had also worked in sales for Corus Vancouver and Vancouver Magazine.
Peter Akman is no longer with CTV. His departure follows a tweet from his personal Twitter account that referenced potentially catching the coronavirus from his asian barber. Akman had been with CTV since 2013 and a senior correspondent for W5 since 2018.
Gary Chomyn has retired as President & CEO of New Media Sales & Management (NMS) in Vancouver after 42 years in broadcasting. His radio career began in 1978, working part-time for CFRN Edmonton and led to jobs as a creative writer, producer, marketing manager and account executive with the company before a term as Sales Manager at MG1200 (CHMG-AM) St. Albert, AB. In 1993, Chomyn was recruited as GSM for the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group stations in Vancouver. He went on to launch NMS in 1999. Chomyn will continue to work as a film writer and producer, with his most recent project 2018 indie thriller Woodland.
Ana Serrano is leaving her role as Chief Digital Officer at the Canadian Film Centre (CFC) to take leadership of OCAD University as president and vice-chancellor. Serrano is currently an adjunct professor, advising students in the Digital Futures graduate program. She’ll assume the office July 1.
Danielle d’Entremont has joined CBC North in Yellowknife as a reporter. d’Entremont has previously worked for the public broadcaster in both Halifax and Toronto.
Stephanie Sirois is the new morning news anchor/multimedia reporter at Acadia Broadcasting’s stations in Saint John, NB. Sirois was most recently a business reporter with The Daily Gleaner in Fredericton.
Jenny Peng is joining CityNews Vancouver as a producer. Peng was formerly a staff reporter with Star Metro Vancouver for the last two years.
Adam Toy is now a digital journalist with Global Calgary. He’ll also become the new co-host of the This is Why podcast and weekend national radio show on the Corus network. Toy has been with Corus since 2017 as a producer and digital content coordinator with 770 CHQR.
Mick Côté has left the Canadian Press Montreal bureau to accept a position with Montreal’s Urbania magazine. Cote had been with CP French Services as a digital news editor since 2017. He’s previously worked for the Montreal Gazette and CBC Montreal.
Aaron Brindle, head of public affairs for Google Canada, is leaving the digital giant to join Toronto’s Radical Ventures, which funds Canadian AI startups. Brindle, who was previously executive producer of CBC Radio’s The Current, had been with Google since Aug. 2011.
Darin Crosby has joined Montreal-based broadcast graphics design and data management company Astucemedia. As Chief Operating Officer, Crosby will helm the company’s expansion across its software engineering, quality assurance, tech support and creative services departments. Crosby was most recently global vice-president of sales for Datapath, an innovator in the field of computer graphics and video wall display technology.
Kent Chambers has moved into the afternoon drive timeslot on Jewel 88.5 (CKDX-FM) Toronto, following the departure of Brian Master. Master had been with the station since 2009. Chambers was previously heard afternoons on Jewel 92 (CKPC-FM) Brantford. Craig Foxsteps into his position, moving up from swing.
Franca Sperandeo has joined Stingray Radio’s sales team in Toronto as a senior account manager. Sperandeo has 20 years of broadcast sales experience, including stops at Standard Radio, Astral Media, CTV- CFTO and most recently the Evanov Radio Group in Toronto where she was General Sales Manager.
Wendy Boomer has moved from mornings to afternoons on Country 101.1 (CKBY-FM) Ottawa, following the retirement of Nancy “Nan” Stapleton from the drive home show. Boomer will also take on the role of APD. Robin Harper, who was previously with Rogers’ 106.1 CHEZ-FM for 14 years, slides into the morning show role, while Brendan Seeley will remain the national midday announcer across the Rogers’ Country brand. Stapleton will also continue to host the Sunday morning Country Classics show across the network.
Scott Broderick, VP of Revenue for Stingray, has announced his retirement effective this May. Broderick, who has been off on medical leave while undergoing cancer treatment, has been given a clean bill of health and will be returning to work in a limited capacity Mar. 2. Broderick’s broadcasting career has spanned 33 years, over 20 of those with Newcap and Stingray.
Mark Morris and Sean “Dilly” Dilworth are the new morning show team on Evanov Radio’s Group’s Hot 100.5 (CFJL-FM) Winnipeg. Morris and Dilworth previously co-hosted the morning show at 99.9 BOB FM (CFWM-FM) up until last November when Morris was part of layoffs at Bell Media. Morris will be heard on Hot 100.5 beginning Feb. 10, while Dilworth joins the show Feb. 18.
