Scot Turner, program director at KFUN 99.5 (CKKW-FM) and operations manager for Bell Media’s Kitchener-Waterloo Radio group, is among those caught up in recent layoffs in the media division. Turner had been in the role for the last year and a half after PD stints at 93.5 The Move (CFXJ-FM) Toronto and 91.5 The Beat (CKBT-FM)/107.5 Dave Rocks (CJDV-FM) Kitchener.
Vanessa Murphy is the new morning show host on 91.9 BOB FM (CKLY-FM) Lindsay, ON. Murphy succeeds Dave Illman and Julie Corlett, who were part of Bell Media’s most recent round of layoffs. Murphy was most recently at Bell Media’s Pure Country 105 (CKQM-FM) Peterborough as music director, as well as midday host at Energy 99.7 (CKPT-FM). Prior to Bell, she was an on-air at boom 97.3 (CHBM-FM) Toronto.
Charmaine Khan has assumed an expanded role with Rogers Media as Senior Manager of Communications, leading all non-sports TV & Radio including Citytv, OMNI Television, FX, FXX, OLN, Rogers tv, 56 radio stations, and two podcasting networks. Khan has been with Rogers Media for nearly eight years and will continue to report to Andrea Goldstein, Senior Director of Communications.
Alessia Staffieri has been promoted within the Rogers Media communications team to Publicist for all non-sports TV & Radio. She’ll report to Charmaine Khan, helping drive communications for all non-sports broadcast media assets. Staffieri has been with Rogers Media since 2017 as Communications Coordinator, Radio & TV.
Geoff Hastings is back in television news, anchoring CTV Edmonton’s 5 p.m. newscast, alongside Carmen Leibel. Hastings is a former Global BC reporter and anchor, who has been acting as BC Hydro’s spokesperson for the last year and a half.
Gord Barnett is retiring form CTV Prince Albert, SK after a 44-year career. The longtime cameraman started out helping produce a local cable news show while still in high school in St. Marys, ON. He was hired by CKBI-TV right out of Fanshawe College in 1975. Barnett has held roles from control room operator to producing documentaries and series, including 1980s country & western show “Number One West.”
Ben Mulroney is the new spokesperson for the CNIB Foundation. Mulroney is taking on the role for the non-profit, in addition to his co-hosting duties on CTV Your Morning and Etalk.
Priya Sam is stepping away from journalism to join Hootsuite as a solutions consultant. Sam has been reporting for the Global Toronto morning show for the past few months after wrapping up a term position with CTV Your Morning. Prior to that she was an anchor and co-host with the CTV Atlantic bureau.
Michael Tymchuk is retiring after three decades as a reporter and producer with the CBC. This is Tymchuk’s last week at CBC Radio Vancouver Island.
Youth Media Alliance (YMA) has three new board members: Marysol Charbonneau (Director of Youth and Family Programs, Télé-Québec), Nadine Dupont (Chief Content Officer, Groupe Média TFO) and Maria Kennedy (Producer and co-founder, Little Engine Moving Pictures). They take over from Judith Beauregard (Executive Producer and Co-CEO, Tobo) and Frank Falcone (President and Executive Creative Director, Guru Studio) whose terms have come to an end.
Lauren Boothby is leaving News 1130 (CKWX-AM) Vancouver to join the Edmonton Sun and Edmonton Journal as a reporter. Boothby, who has been a reporter and web editor with Rogers since Aug. 2018, will take up her new role in January.
Crystal Pape has been promoted to Director, Content Distribution at Hollywood Suite. Pape has been with Hollywood Suite since 2013, starting out on social media strategy and Corporate Social Responsibility, and evolving into growing subscriptions and building B2B marketing and partner incentives.
Brad MacLeod will be filling in as a beat reporter with Global Vancouver Island. MacLeod, who was most recently with CTV in Victoria and Calgary, will be covering for Kylie Stanton while she’s on maternity leave.
