Eric Minoli has been named interim president and CEO of Groupe Média TFO. Minoli has been with TFO for more than 12 years, most recently as VP and COO. Glenn O’Farrell is vacating the role Aug. 16 to become CEO of OmbudService for Life and Health Insurance (OLHI), a national, independent complaint resolution service. O’Farrell had been with Groupe Media TFO since 2010.
Bruce Bowie, who has been morning show host at 630 CHED Edmonton for the last nine years, has announced he’ll hang up his headphones on Aug. 30. Bowie’s 47-year radio career started in 1972 at CKSA Lloydminster. Opportunities in Lethbridge and at CHAB Moose Jaw followed, before Bowie arrived at CHED in 1974. He would host the station’s morning show for 12 years before leaving in 1986 for oldies startup KING FM (CKNG-FM) Edmonton in 1986. A two-year stint at CISS-FM Calgary followed before Bowie returned to Edmonton and CISN Country (CISN-FM). He remained at the helm of the CISN morning show for 21 years before being invited to return to CHED in 2010 to step in for the retiring Gord Whitehead on mornings.
Ted Farr, who came out of semi-retirement last September to return to radio news at AM 1150 (CKFR-AM) Kelowna, has assumed the role of news director as of Aug. 1. As part of his new duties, Farr will take over newscasts on the AM 1150 Early Edition with Phil Johnson.
Kelli Rickard is the new morning show co-host on Hot Country 103.5 (CKHZ-FM) Halifax, alongside Ian Robinson. Rickard is a radio veteran with former on-air stints at Q104 (CFRQ-FM), SUN FM (CKUL-FM) and CHUM Halifax under her belt, but has primarily been working as a copywriter since 2013. She takes over the role vacated by Dana Thompson, who is now co-hosting mornings on Stingray’s B.C. interior stations with Casey Clarke.
Kevin Getz is the new swing announcer on 102.1 The Edge (CFNY-FM) Toronto. Getz is a Vancouver-based actor, animator, and producer, among other creative endeavours, who has previously done swing for The Beat 94.5/Virgin Radio (CFBT-FM) Vancouver and fill-in on KiSS (CKKS-FM) Vancouver. He’s also behind web series The Dish.
Emily Campbell is leaving CityNews Montreal to join CTV Montreal this fall. The former CJAD 800 anchor/reporter had been a VJ with CityNews since July of last year.
Hadeel Ibrahim is joining CBC New Brunswick full-time in Saint John. Ibrahim has been reporting from the public broadcaster’s Fredericton bureau for the last year and a half.
Thomas Daigle is headed to Toronto to report on tech for CBC News. Daigle has been with CBC for nine years, the last three stationed in the UK as a foreign videojournalist.
Ashley Burke is returning from maternity leave and will be joining CBC’s Parliamentary Bureau as a senior reporter. Burke has been with CBC for nine years, most recently as a VJ with CBC Ottawa.
Adam Gotlieb has been appointed to the Matrix Solutions team as CTO, helping deliver the recently announced Matrix Sales Gateway portal. Gotlieb most recently served as Director of Product Management for Imagine Communications where he helped evolve the company’s global software portfolio, including traffic, content rights management, and program scheduling. Prior to Imagine, Gotlieb held various roles with Harris Broadcast.
Alanna Kelly has left Castanet Media in Kelowna to report and anchor for CTV Victoria. Kelly had been with Castanet for the last two and a half years after a previous stint as a digital reporter for 680 News (CFTR-AM) and CityNews in Toronto.
Estefania Duran has joined CBC Vancouver as a casual reporter. Duran left News 1130 (CKWX-AM) in June where she’d been on the digital desk. She’s previously worked as a reporter for both CKNW-AM and Global BC.
Kelly Wilhelm is joining the Canada Media Fund (CMF) in the newly-created role of Chief Strategy Officer. Reporting and acting in an advisory capacity to president and CEO Valerie Creighton, Wilhelm is tasked with helping set the CMF’s future trajectory with a focus on innovation through the lens of industry-wide disruption. Wilhelm’s background is in stakeholder and government relations as a senior policy advisor to the Office of the Minister of Canadian Heritage. She also spent a decade in policy and planning with the Canada Council for the Arts.
