Gregg Zaun, Sportsnet baseball analyst and former Toronto Blue Jays catcher, has been fired following complaints by female employees about inappropriate behaviour in the workplace. Zaun spent 16 years in the majors before joining Sportsnet in 2011.
Sheila Coles, host of CBC Saskatchewan’s The Morning Edition for 24 years, will host her last show on Dec. 15. Coles started with CBC as an intern and became host of the highly-rated morning show in 1993 after 10 years in the newsroom. Coles has some travel adventures planned.
Rick Cluff is retiring as host of CBC Vancouver’s Early Edition on Dec. 22 after 41 years with the public broadcaster. Cluff has been hosting the morning show since 1997. His career with CBC began in Ontario in 1976 as a sports commentator and reporter.
Rhonda Brown has been promoted to news director and station manager at Global Halifax and Global New Brunswick. Brown succeeds Jim Haskins, who now holds the same position at Global Edmonton. Brown has been with Global Maritimes since 2012 as supervising producer and a former morning show producer.
Treena Wood is jumping from News 1130 (CKWX-AM) to CBC British Columbia, where she’ll succeed the retiring Wayne Williams as news director. Wood had been with Rogers Vancouver since 1996, most recently as national format director of news for Rogers Radio. She was previously News 1130’s news director from 2010-2016, and an editor and anchor.
Corus has now fired AM 640 (CFMJ-AM) Toronto late-night host Gary Bell after complaints of anti-Semitic content on a Nov. 11 episode of his long-running conspiracy theory show A View From Space.
Jamie Mauracher is leaving CTV News Toronto to join Global News Toronto as a digital broadcast journalist in the New Year. Mauracher has been anchoring, reporting and producing in Toronto since last December, after relocating from CTV Calgary. The Ryerson grad has also done stints with CBC in St. John’s, NL and Regina.
Stephen LeDrew, CP24 Toronto’s political commentator, was suspended by Bell Media for a week for violating CTV News Policy and Code of Conduct with an appearance on Fox News. LeDrew appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight, where he discussed LGBTQ2 issues in Canada. While some of LeDrew’s responses drew criticism on social media, LeDrew maintains his suspension was a result of not getting permission in advance to appear on the show and not any specific comments he made.
Dave Sullivan has officially joined CTV Barrie (CKVR) as a part-time ENG/EFP camera operator. Sullivan was formerly regional producer (Barrie) for TV1 Toronto, up until July when Bell Media shuttered its community television operations in Toronto and Montreal.
Dave Jutzi, morning show host at 91.5 The Beat (CKBT-FM) Kitchener is moving on after 10 years. Jutzi made the announcement on social media, but hasn’t revealed where he’s headed.
Francis Martin a.k.a. Frankie Hollywood is no longer with Mix 96.5 (CKUL-FM) Halifax. He’d been co-hosting the morning show since May 2016 after previous morning man gigs with Energy 106 (CHWE-FM) Winnipeg, Virgin Radio (CJCH-FM) Halifax and 107.3 KOOL FM (CHBE-FM) Victoria.
