Rory Capern joins Pelmorex Corp. as vice-president, Partnerships, effective Nov. 7. He’ll report directly to Sam Sebastian, president & CEO, who joined the company in September. Capern was formerly managing director of Twitter Canada, and before that head of Partnerships at Google Canada.
Carol Anne Meehan is resigning her position as midday host on 1310 News Ottawa and will resume writing a blog she started prior to joining the station. Meehan previously co-anchored the 6 p.m. evening news at CTV Ottawa until she was let go in 2015.
Abigail Bimman will be joining Global News as an Ottawa-based correspondent, starting Nov. 6. Bimman leaves CTV Kitchener, where she spent the past year heading up the station’s investigative unit.
Big Coat Media has announced the addition of Brooks Gray, as head of development and Frank Sutera as senior VP of development. Working out of Los Angeles and reporting to the SVP of Content, Sutera will be responsible of developing projects for Big Coat and pitching them to the U.S. market. Working from Big Coat’s Toronto office, Brooks Gray will build on the success of the Love It or List It franchise series to develop new programming.
Rohit Jain, a 20-year veteran of the Indian media industry, will head Lionsgate’s new office in Mumbai, India. Jain has served for the past seven years as deputy CEO of Videocon d2h and helped orchestrate its Nasdaq listing, prior to its merger with Dish TV India in 2016.
DHX Television has appointed Gary Finnegan to the role of VP of Programming Strategy. Finnegan joins DHX Television from Turner International where he held various senior supervisory roles spanning programming, scheduling, acquisitions and content development across Turner’s EMEA and Asia kids’ business.
James ‘Gruff ‘Gushnowski is the new program director for Newcap’s Alberta North stations, overseeing Lloydminster, Wainwright, Cold Lake, Bonnyville, St. Paul, Lac La Biche, Athabasca, Slave Lake, High Prairie, Whitecourt, Westlock, Edson and Hinton. He’ll be based out of Lloydminster. The former K-97 (CIRK-FM) Edmonton PD had been doing vacation relief at Corus Edmonton since July.
