Rob Fai

Rob Fai, longtime voice of the Vancouver Canadians and the baseball club’s director of communications, has a new regular hosting gig on TSN 1040 (CKST-AM) Vancouver. Rob Fai Nation airs weeknights from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Jim Pattison Broadcast Group has laid off four staff at its Kelowna stations. Dan “Dirtman” McFarlane, promotions director of Power 104 (CKLZ-FM) and Q103.1 (CKQQ-FM), and marketing director Julie Hill were let go effective immediately, while newsreader Russell Byth’s last day will be Oct. 21. Power 104 personality Drew Ferreira will finish at the station on Dec. 21. Hill had been with JPBG since 1998.

The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) has appointed four new members to its board of directors: Eric Belcher, president & CEO, Cast & Crew Entertainment Services, LLC; Paul Bronfman, chair/CEO, Comweb Corp. and William F. White International Inc.; Patrick Cardarelli, senior director, Recovery & Resolution Planning, RBC; and Don Carmody, producer/president, Don Carmody Productions Inc.

Julie Adam, Jennifer Dettman, Christina Litz, and Meghan Symsyk

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) has announced the appointment of five new members to its board of directors. Joining the board are Julie Adam, senior VP of Radio, Rogers Communications; Jennifer Dettman (Observer): executive director, Unscripted Content, CBC; Christina Litz, senior vice-president, Marketing & Content, Canadian Football League; Meghan Symsyk, VP, International Marketing & Management, Entertainment One; and Rob Zifarelli, agent, Paradigm Talent Agency.

Silvet Ali

Silvet Ali is CBC Montreal’s new weekend assignment editor. Ali has been a reporter and producer with the public broadcaster since 2009.

Brian Wilde

Brian Wilde, who was laid off with the elimination of CTV Montreal’s sports department last spring, will appear as a semi-regular guest on Global Montreal’s Global News at 5:30 and Global News Morning during the 2017-18 Habs season. Wilde is also working with website Recrutes.ca, launched by Grant McCagg, where he’ll post interviews and game summaries, in addition to weekly features.

Leah Hextall

Leah Hextall has joined The Athletic Winnipeg as a contributor. Hextall has been freelancing after stints as an ice-level reporter with ESPN and Sportsnet host.

Louise Imbeault

Louise Imbeault, former Radio-Canada Atlantic director until her retirement in 2011, has been elected president of Société Nationale de l’Acadie. The nonprofit federation represents Acadian interests on a regional, national and international level.

Andrea C. Martin has been appointed to the Quebecor Inc. board and Quebecor Media Inc. Human Resources and Corporate Governance Committees. Martin was president of ADT Canada, was managing director of Data Services for Royal Mail Group in London, England and previously worked for Reader’s Digest, where she was president of three global divisions.

Matty B McIntyre

Matty B McIntyre, who held down drive at Z95.3 (CKZZ-FM) Vancouver for the last five years, up until this past August, has taken over the midday show at KiSS 104.9 FM (CKKS-FM) Vancouver. McIntyre tells Broadcast Dialogue, that starting in November, he’ll also be voice-tracking middays on KiSS 103.1 (CHTT-FM) Victoria.

Tom Henheffer

Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) executive director Tom Henheffer is leaving to become Vice Canada’s director of news and digital. Henheffer has been with CJFE the last four years and will continue as a member of its board of directors, as well as secretary of the Executive Committee.

Jimmy Kalaitzis

Jimmy Kalaitzis is the new morning show producer at JUMP! 106.9 (CKQB-FM) Ottawa, starting Oct. 10. Kalaitzis was most recently hosting afternoon drive on 104.5 Fresh (CFLG-FM) Cornwall.
