DougallMedia – Thunder Bay, ON
Got opinions about music clocks? Feel personally attacked by sloppy segues? Ever said “that could’ve been a great bit, let’s try this though…”?
Good. Keep reading.
DougallMedia is looking for someone to join our Director’s team as head of Radio Programming who knows how to lead multiple stations (two commercial stations in Thunder Bay, one in a community market and a fourth that is treated like a Cinderella step-sister, and their related websites and apps), coach talent, protect the brand, and still remembers that radio is supposed to be fun.
This is a big chair. A fun chair. A “you’re going to be blamed when something breaks but praised when it wins awards” chair.
The Job (AKA: What You’ll Actually Do)
Responsibilities Include:
- Be the creative compass for the stations — music, content, tone, vibe, soul.
- Build, manage, and protect the music strategy (clocks, rotations, testing, trends).
- Coach on-air talent so they’re compelling, prepared, and not rambling into traffic hits.
- Oversee promos and contests so they sound tight, intentional, and adhere to our brand standards.
- Collaborate with promotions, sales, and digital (yes, those people matter too).
- Keep the station sounding fresh, local, and competitive in the unique market Thunder Bay is.
- Handle logs, scheduling, and regulatory stuff without breaking into a cold sweat.
- Know when to push innovation… and when to say “no, that’s a terrible idea.
You Are Probably This Person If…
Requirements for this position: - You’ve programmed or assisted programming at a commercial radio station.
- You understand ratings, but you’re not ruled by them.
- You can coach talent without crushing souls.
- You know how to lead creatives without killing creativity.
- You’re organized, decisive, and can manage through chaos.
- You can juggle multiple stations, deadlines, and personalities without throwing headphones.
- You’re digitally fluent — streaming, socials, podcasting, and brand extensions don’t scare you.
Bonus points if you:
Still love radio.
Still listen critically.
Still care.
If you’re also a strong announcer, there may be mic opportunities — but this is a programming-first role. Ego optional. Leadership required.
Look Thunder Bay is in a unique market, where the city is the hub of the region. There’s an abundance of ways to have a good work-life balance, and yes we actually want you to have some of that.
