Global is launching Global News Weekend this Saturday, a new morning show co-hosted by Aalia Adam and Mike Arsenault, that will stream exclusively on the Global TV App and Global News digital platforms.
Airing every Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. ET, the three-hour program will feature a mix of news, weather and in-depth interviews.
“The launch of Global News Weekend marks an exciting milestone for our team,” said Kenton Boston, Vice-President, National and Network News, Global News, in a release. “Aalia and Mike are the perfect team for digital-first programming and we are excited for them to share their refreshing and upbeat approach to weekend news.”
Both of the show’s hosts have strong backgrounds in online journalism. Adam started her career with Global Montreal in 2008 where she spent five years as a reporter, web producer and weather specialist. After going on to reporting stints with CTV Montreal and Citytv’s local edition of Breakfast Television, she returned to Global in 2017 as an online video journalist, based in Toronto, including producing for the Global News YouTube channel.
Arsenault joined Global in 2015 as a weather specialist, but has transitioned to digital journalism, creating, producing and hosting digital series Second Serve, What’s Your Fitness Age, The Culture of Fitness, Fitness Served Cold and The Training Ground. Prior to Global, he was an on-camera presenter and field reporter with The Weather Network and worked as a sideline reporter for ESPN and CBS.
Corus Entertainment unveiled the Global TV App at the beginning of March.
The “all-in-one streaming experience” is being offered in two tiers. The free tier allows users to access local and national news feeds, in addition to a limited selection of series from Global primetime, Food Network Canada and HGTV Canada. The cable subscriber tier allows viewers to sign in with their provider credentials and watch both full seasons and live streams from the aforementioned networks, plus any Corus specialty networks included in their cable package like W Network, HISTORY, Showcase, and Slice.
The app is available on iOS, Android, Chromecast and at watch.globaltv.com.
