Corus to air Rock 101 Vancouver morning show on Q107 Calgary

Corus Radio is making the move to syndicate another of its major market morning shows.

The network announced Tuesday that starting Aug. 27, Q107 (CFGQ-FM) Calgary will start airing the Willy in the Morning show from its sister classic rock station Rock 101 (CFMI-FM) in Vancouver. Helmed by Willy Percy, Kim Seale and Alece Anderson, the show will air from 6 – 9 a.m.

“The team has great energy and a strong rapport that we know will resonate with Q107 listeners and quickly become a highlight of their morning routines,” said Phil Kallsen, program director, Q107, in a release. “We can’t wait to share this personality-driven, sharp-witted and fun morning show with Calgarians on August 27.”

Q107 lost longtime morning host Jeff Brown last July when he made the move to JACK 96.9 (CJAX-FM) Vancouver. Most recently, afternoon drive host Tarzan Dan had been filling in on mornings.

This is the second major market morning show Corus has replaced with syndicated programming in the past year. Last September, it made the rare move of bringing in Seattle-based syndicated morning show Brooke & Jubal In The Morning to JUMP! 106.9 (CKQB-FM) Ottawa, replacing local hosts Jesse Reynolds and Jenna Mosher.

Stingray has also syndicated some of its programming, including the morning shows across its Real Country and boom-branded radio stations in rural Alberta, which led to the elimination of 14 on-air positions in January. Most recently, it moved to air The Casey Clarke Show regionally in the a.m. time slot, across its three New Country stations in the B.C. Interior. As of May, Bell Media’s Pure Country-branded stations also feature syndicated midday, evening and weekend programming.

 More to come.
