CBC pushes further into FAST space with CBC Comedy channel

CBC has launched CBC Comedy, a free ad-supported streaming (FAST) channel featuring the public broadcaster’s original comedy series, sketch shows and stand-up specials.

Now available on CBC Gem, the channel is set to launch on LG Channels, The Roku Channel and Samsung TV Plus later this fall.

The introduction of CBC Comedy marks a move by the public broadcaster to push further into the growing ad-supported streaming space. CBC launched its initial FAST channel offering, CBC News Explore, last November. In addition to CBC Comedy, it’s announced plans to launch CBC News BC, featuring the news of the day from the West Coast, along with additional local CBC News streaming channels in the New Year.

CBC Comedy promises to be a hub for popular series like Kim’s Convenience, Schitt’s Creek, Run the Burbs, Son of a Critch, Mr. D, and Baroness von Sketch Show, as well as stand-up specials from the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, Halifax Comedy Festival, and more. The newest seasons of current CBC comedies will continue to stream exclusively on CBC Gem.

CBC Comedy is our new go-to destination for the best comedy Canada has to offer, providing free, nonstop access to CBC’s acclaimed library of comedy from authentic original voices, and sketch and stand-up that reflects the times with satire and wit,” said Sally Catto, General Manager, Entertainment, Factual & Sports, in a CBC announcement.
