Broadcaster Larry Gifford explores Parkinson’s journey in new podcast

What happens When Life Gives You Parkinson’s? If you’re a seasoned broadcaster like Larry Gifford, you launch a new podcast on the topic.

Gifford, senior PD for Corus Vancouver stations CKNW-AM and AM730 (CHMJ-AM), debuted the new venture Wednesday, Sept. 12, in partnership with Corus Entertainment’s CuriousCast and Parkinson Canada.

When Life Gives You Parkinson’s shares Gifford’s journey as he comes to terms with the disease following his Aug. 2017 diagnosis.

Gifford, 46, looking for answers about his life ahead, sought Parkinson’s-focused podcasts and found few, clinical options.

“My goal is to help people with Parkinson’s realize they aren’t alone,” said Gifford in a news release. “Awareness is the first step towards more fundraising for research, which is severely needed if we ever hope to find a cure. This is my way to make an impact.”

In each episode, he and co-host Niki Reitmayer will examine the impact that a Parkinson’s diagnosis has on a person, a family, a friendship, a colleague, a company, and a community.

Parkinson Canada has signed on to the series as a content and promotional partner. As a companion to the podcast’s launch, Global BC is also airing a three-part series about Gifford’s journey living and working with Parkinson’s, airing Sept. 12-14 on Global News Hour at 6.

Gifford is a 30-year broadcast veteran who started his career with News Radio 610 WTVN Columbus, OH. He’s been a program director with 1460 The Fan (WBNS-FM) Columbus, 710 ESPN (KSPN-AM) Los Angeles, News-Talk 97.3 KIRO-FM and KTTH-AM Seattle, in addition to working as a radio management consultant and talent coach. Gifford has been with Corus Vancouver since 2016.
