Broadcast Tech & Engineering News – MLSE and AWS unveil ‘SportsX’ R&D program

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) Digital Labs and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have unveiled new research and development program, SportsX, focused on enhancing both the fan experience and team performance by championing a culture of innovation for sports, entertainment and technology. SportsX aims to build out the best ideas – whether they originate from coaches, fans, partners, or employees – to be developed and tested in the MLSE environment with a goal of creating solutions that can benefit the sports industry at large. The launch follows a successful R&D pilot that birthed initiatives like the NHL Extended Reality Stats Overlay, an augmented reality (AR) viewing experience that brings broadcast and video game capabilities to those watching in-person, and an Immersive Basketball Experience developed using optical data to give the user a life-sized AR experience as if they are viewing a game as a player or sitting courtside.
