Wednesday’s Alberta Day of Caring for Jasper saw the province’s radio stations come together to raise more than $1.5 million to support wildfire relief efforts.
Led by Pattison Media’s Edmonton stations, where the idea came about to engage radio groups across the province, the fundraiser saw stations partner with the Alberta Bottle Depot Association in a province-wide bottle drive in support of the Canadian Red Cross. Donations were also collected via albertadayofcaring.com, and by direct text donations to shortcode 20222, using keyword “RADIO.”
In total, $518,482 was raised by listeners to support wildfire relief efforts in Jasper. With donation matching from both the federal and provincial governments, the grand total raised was $1,555,446.
Albertans are encouraged to continue donating their empty cans and bottles until end of day on Monday, Aug. 5 at any Alberta Bottle Depot, and simply say “These are for Jasper.” Albertans may also continue to support the cause through online donations at albertadayofcaring.com.
