SiriusXM Canada has announced that The Howard Stern Show is being adapted into a streamable episode that will air on HBO Max.
A new season of the show debuts on the satellite radio provider on Monday, Sept. 14, with new episodes to drop weekly on subsequent Mondays. New streamable HBO Max episodes will debut Thursday, Sept. 17, with new episodes dropping every Thursday.
SiriusXM said in an announcement Monday that the new series takes Howard “to the pinnacle of prestige television and gives his fans a long-desired ‘seat in the studio’ to see what they just heard.” Forty cameras will capture Stern’s live show for the HBO Max adaptation, which promises to feature “periodic extras.”
“There’s simply no one like Howard, and the start of his new season is another exciting chapter in an extraordinary run,” said Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM’s President and Chief Content Officer. “For more than two decades at SiriusXM, he’s continued to evolve, surprise audiences and deliver the kind of conversations and moments that only Howard can. We are proud that Howard chose to continue with SiriusXM through 2028 for his exclusive live show and deep library of classic Howard, and that Howard, HBO Max and SiriusXM have now teamed up to create a compelling new video version of his show.”
When the new season debuts on Sept. 14, SiriusXM said the host will also unveil a new lineup for his long-time SiriusXM channel Howard 100, including Wrap Up Wednesday, an expanded version of Howard’s Wrap Up Show hosted by Gary Dell’Abate and Jon Hein, in addition to new ways to hear Stern’s multi-decade library of past shows. The Howard Stern section of the SiriusXM app is also expanding to include “Howard Stern Decades” featuring archival content from, or about, the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s and ’10s.
The new season debuts following layoffs earlier in the summer that saw about a dozen staffers released as the show prepared to move to just one day a week.
Stern, 72, who first signed a landmark deal with SiriusXM in 2006, inked a new three-year contract with SiriusXM in December. While the details weren’t disclosed, the veteran shock jock was coming off a previous five-year contact worth $500 million, putting his estimated earnings at roughly $8,000 per minute for his four-hour a week radio show.
