Kristy Werner named president at Rawlco Radio

Rawlco Radio has announced the appointment of Kristy Werner as company president, succeeding Pam Leyland, who is stepping back from the role after 24 years.

Kristy Werner

Werner, who had previously held the role of Executive Vice-President, since December 2022, has been with Rawlco Radio for more than two decades.

Her career with Rawlco began in 2001 as a Creative Writer in Regina. She went on to manage multiple departments including Interactive, Promotions, and Programming, including serving as Program Director for Z99 (CIZL-FM) Regina, before moving to Saskatoon in 2007 to program C95 (CFMC-FM). In 2011, she was appointed General Manager of Rawlco Radio Saskatoon, expanding her leadership scope in 2017 when she became Vice-President of Newstalk Programming while continuing as Saskatoon General Manager. In 2021, she was named General Manager of Rawlco Radio Saskatchewan, and in 2022 promoted to Executive Vice-President.

“We have built incredible programming and sales teams in Saskatchewan which has resulted in dedicated and loyal listeners and long-term successful clients,” said Werner, in a company announcement. “We are focused on delivering excellence in advertising strategies, as well as local news, quality local entertainment, supporting local community initiatives and building pride in our province. We are ready to keep building the success story of Rawlco Radio in Saskatchewan.”

Pam Leyland

The company says Leyland is stepping away from day-to-day leadership to spend more time with her family, but will continue on in a consulting capacity, supporting the company through the transition and on key strategic initiatives.

“Spending over 40 years with Rawlco Radio and 24 years as President executing incredibly great radio stations across Saskatchewan and the country has been amazing but even more so was supporting and building our local clients’ businesses with creative and professional marketing and long-term strategies,” said Leyland. “Rawlco Radio is in excellent hands with Kristy as President, and we will continue to thrive in Saskatchewan.”

Rawlco will celebrate its 80th anniversary this year. It currently owns seven stations, including C97.7 (CHUP-FM) Calgary, which Stingray intends to acquire, pending CRTC approval. Rawlco subsequently announced in late November its intention to acquire 92.9 The Bull (CKBL-FM) Saskatoon from Saskatoon Media Group.
