After 85 years, 560 CFOS Owen Sound has made the move to FM.
89.3 The NEW CFOS FM made its debut at 8:10 a.m. ET on Friday morning, launching with INXS’ New Sensation, and featuring new tag line “Putting Grey Bruce First!”
Playing a mix of Oldies and Classic Adult Contemporary, the station will feature music from the 1960s through early 2000s, with many of the programs CFOS is known for on AM continuing on the FM signal, including Dial A Deal, Community Connection, the ag report, bingo, and funeral, birthday and anniversary announcements.
“Now we begin the next 85 years,” said Peter McKeown, General Manager of Bayshore Broadcasting at launch. “Bayshore Broadcasting is adapting and investing to continue that commitment to you…our listener. Our tradition of helping Grey Bruce, telling its stories and working with the business community is ready for lift-off!”
The move to FM marks the return of Fred Wallace to his longtime morning slot, alongside Paul Hill. Wallace previously retired from CFOS in 2023.
“Radio is resilient and remains at the forefront of information needed to serve the public interest and strengthen communities” said Operations Manager Rob Mattice. “The same great people and music and features you have known us for these past 85 years will continue.”
Adding to the CFOS legacy, the station will blow the Black Clawson-Kennedy factory whistle at noon and 5 p.m. each weekday on the radio, a nod to the blue collar workers that were the historical backbone of the industrial town for nearly 150 years.
The move to FM also marks a new partnership with the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack that will see home games broadcast on the new station.
Bayshore says CFOS’ AM signal will continue to broadcast until the end of October before going off the air.
