The Canadian Podcast Awards have announced the nominees for the seventh annual awards program, celebrating outstanding achievement in Canadian podcasting.
Established in 2018 by Podcamp Toronto, a record-setting 1,984 submissions were received this year across 29 categories. Of 336 nominated podcasts, the top nominee this year was paranormal series Geist, hosted by Danielle Matar and Beau Jensen. The spooky, atmospheric series earned six nominations, including Outstanding Arts Series and Original Music and Lyrics.
The Sonar Network’s Happy to See Me, hosted by Erika Casupanan, garnered five nods, including Debut Series and Society & Culture. The Survivor 41 winner highlights “the overlooked and underestimated,” featuring interviews with guests like Big Brother Canada winner Bayleigh Pelham, TikTok creator Zachary Reality, and comedian Andrew Phung. The public are invited to vote for their favourite podcasts in the People’s Choice category. In addition to Geist and Happy to See Me, podcasts up for the People’s Choice honour include F*ck Buddies: A Sex and Dating Advice Podcast; monster lore podcast Ghostfacers: A Supernatural Rewatch; dark history/horror pod Lullaby: The Fear Podcast; story-driven role playing podcast, No Quest For the Wicked; Opionated Lushes, featuring three friends who stream themselves playing a drinking game each week; Sex Ed with Tim; Sonar Network’s improvised scary story series, Spooked!; and Dungeons & Dragons pod, The Diecast Podcast.
Voting will remain open until Nov. 22, with the award winners to be announced in early December.
