Online & Digital Media News – Postmedia president pens open letter to Saltwire Network readers

Postmedia President & CEO Andrew MacLeod has penned an open letter to Saltwire Network readers as the company closes on its acquisition of the Atlantic Canadian publisher. MacLeod promises that Postmedia “will bring the historic mastheads back to the forefront, as both a symbol and a signal of our deep commitment to local journalism in each of our communities. Those titles, especially in the digital space, have been de-emphasized in recent years, especially on digital platforms that became the ‘SaltWire’ brand.” Among immediate changes under the ownership transfer, the 145-year-old daily St. John’s Telegram, where 30% of newsroom jobs were cut, will begin publishing a weekly print edition as of Aug. 30. News will still be available daily online.

Bloomberg is launching its first Canadian newsletter, the weekly Bay Street Edition, starting Sept. 6. It will be overseen by veteran business writer Christine Dobby, who took on Bloomberg’s banking beat last year. The newsletter will land in subscriber inboxes every Friday, covering Canadian finance, strategy, deals, and people moves.
