Vista names new national news director

John White has been named Vista Radio’s new National Director of News.

With a background that includes both local journalism and digital media, White was most recently the editor of Ottawa-based social finance newsletter, Future for Good and fintech website Fintech Nexus. His resume includes stints as a regional editor for Black Press in B.C.’s Kootenay Region; working with the Edmonton Journal as a digital news editor; and serving as a deputy editor for online at the Winnipeg Free Press. He started his career at the Kenora Daily Miner & News in 1992, after graduating from Red River College’s Creative Communications program.

“Our goal was to find someone who not only carried a passion for journalism and building  communities but could instil that same passion with our news teams across Canada. We are confident we found that in John,” said Joe Gabor, Vice-President – Business, in a company announcement. “His commitment to local journalism and his innovative approach to news production align perfectly with our mission  to deliver every community we serve with reliable, engaging, and most importantly, LOCAL news and information. We believe John’s leadership will elevate our news division and strengthen our connection with audiences.”

Wendy Gray

The company says the appointment is a significant step forward for Vista’s commitment to local journalism. White steps into the position vacated by Wendy Gray, who departed the company after 16 years, earlier this year.

In addition to White, Vista has welcomed several new hires in recent months, including Kate Brown, News Director – Kootenay Region; Paul Cluff, News Director – Southern Ontario; and Justin Goulet, an Editor and Senior Reporter in Lethbridge.
