Yuk Yuk’s International Stand-Up Comedy and Icarus Capital Corporation have unveiled new content development and production venture, Yuk Yuk’s Media.
On track to start releasing content later this year, Yuk Yuk’s Media will be focused on developing traditional and digital stand-up comedy shows, unscripted competitions, and documentaries.
“After having cultivated comedy clubs in BC and Calgary, and recently establishing theatrical experiences across the BC lower mainland, our new capital company is now ready for a much larger challenge to help launch Yuk Yuk’s Media,” said Garry Yuill, CEO of Icarus Capital and Executive Producer of Yuk Yuk’s Media, in an announcement. “Meanwhile, we’ve recognized the unparalleled potential of theatres for capturing high-quality digital short-form content. We’re poised to unleash our initial content to global audiences, commencing later this year.”
Icarus Capital COO Eric Y. Lapointe, whose background includes distribution, marketing and development roles with Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group and Just For Laughs, will serve as Head of Content.
Mark Breslin, Founder and CEO of Yuk Yuk’s, said the timing felt ripe to establish a dedicated media arm.
“Laughter is our core mission at Yuk Yuk’s. With the launch of Yuk Yuk’s Media, we’re thrilled to extend our comedic reach to new digital audiences worldwide,” added Yuk Yuk’s President Jeff Silverman. “With this new dedicated team and access to our top comedic talent, we’re truly excited to see this project flourish in the years to come.”
The inaugural Yuk Yuk’s Media filming event is scheduled to take place April 20 at Vancouver’s Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre as part of the ongoing “South Van Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Night” theatre show series, featuring Gavin Clarkson, Harris Anderson, Rory Dunn, Katrina Bennett, and Ty Boissonnault. That content will premiere across various digital platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, with plans for further distribution across Yuk Yuk’s Media’s own forthcoming branded and digital channels.
Yuk Yuk’s Media will unveil its initial projects at the Banff World Media Festival in June, promising “an eclectic slate.”
