Online & Digital Media News – ZoomerMedia acquires Curiocity Group

ZoomerMedia has added Curiocity Group Incto its portfolio, one of Alberta’s leading digital media publishers, with a presence in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa. According to data supplied by ZoomerMedia, Curiocity’s hyper-local food and experience-driven sites boast four million daily readers. The acquisition is ZoomerMedia’s seventh in two years as Founder and CEO Moses Znaimer carries out a plan to expand the company’s reach beyond its original 45+ core demographic. Read more here.

Apple has introduced Apple Sports, a free app for iPhone that gives sports fans access to real-time scores, stats, live betting odds, and the ability to tap over to the Apple TV app to watch live games and connected streaming apps. Available to download in the App Store in the U.S., Canada, and the UK, it currently features leagues in-season including MLS, NBA, NCAA basketball (men’s and women’s), NHL, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Liga MX, Ligue 1, Premier League, and Serie A. Apple says additional leagues will become available over time, including MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA for their upcoming seasons.

The Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) will bring together a panel on Feb. 27 discussing reshaping the future of journalism through novel revenue models and how news outlets – particularly new and entrepreneurial ones – can deliver value to audiences and build diversified mission-driven businesses.
