Nominations open for 2023 Allan Waters Young Broadcaster of the Year

Canadian Music Week (CMW) is inviting nominations for the Allan Waters Young Broadcaster of the Year Award, in memory of Steve Young, until May 12.

Nominations for the 14th annual award, recognizing a young Canadian broadcaster, can come from anyone working in the industry who meets the following criteria:

  • Candidates must be under 30 years of age as of Dec. 31, 2022
  • Must work in the programming department: On-Air, Programming, Promotion, Production or Creative
  • Must be nominated by another individual working in the radio industry
  • Must be Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant
  • Must have made a significant, documented contribution to the community they serve, the radio industry or their craft

Past nominees, including last year’s runners-up, can be re-nominated if they still meet the criteriaSubmissions should include supporting materials like mp3s of airchecks, press coverage, documentation of community involvement, awards, and/or ratings data.

Winners will be notified no later than Friday, May 19, with the award to be presented during Canadian Music Week at the inaugural Radiodays North America conference.

Recent Young Broadcasters of the Year include Virgin Radio network midday host Shannon Burns, SONiC 102.9 (CHDI-FM) Edmonton personality Lauren Hunter, K96.3 (CKKO-FM) Kelowna and K97.5 (CKRV-FM) Kamloops morning show host Brad Karp (pictured) and former 102.1 The Edge (CFNY-FM) morning show co-host Ruby Carr.
