Pattison to acquire Westman Communications’ Brandon, MB stations

Pattison Media has announced its intent to acquire Westman Communications Group’s (WCG) radio stations in Brandon, MB.

The acquisition would see Q Country 91.5 FM (CKLQ-FM) and 94.7 Star FM (CKLF-FM) join Pattison’s other Manitoba properties, 94.3 NOW! Radio (CHNW-FM) and QX 104 (CFQX-FM) Winnipeg.

The sale would get Westman, a member-owned cooperative, out of the radio business to focus on its internet, TV and home phone service offerings.

Pattison says the move will allow it to “super serve listeners and clients not only in Brandon, but western and southwestern Manitoba.”

“When Pattison approached WCG about acquiring Q Country FM and Star FM, we were pleased by their strong history of providing local radio, supporting their communities, and maintaining a high level of local employment,” said interim WCG President and CEO Bud Keys, in a release. “These are all important things to WCG, and Pattison’s values echo that. We feel confident that these stations will be in excellent hands.”

“We are very pleased to be adding such valuable and locally supportive properties to our 48 stations. We look forward to continuing to build this great community and supporting the initiatives that make Brandon unique,” added Pattison Media President Rod Schween.

The sale is subject to CRTC approval and expected to close by the end of the year or early 2023.

Headquartered in Kamloops, B.C., Pattison Media is Canada’s largest, privately-owned, western-based media company, with 48 radio stations, three television stations, and 19 online news portals, in addition to podcasting and digital marketing agencies. Its operations span 29 markets across B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
