Vista Radio expands reach of 2day FM brand

Vista Radio has rebranded its recently-acquired station in Cranbrook, BC as 107.5 2day FM – “a fresh, new sound for the East Kootenays.”

Formerly Summit 107 (CFSM-FM), which played a variety/adult AC format, the station is one of three that came under the Vista banner in January following its acquisition of the shares of Clear Sky Radio, including 94.1 CJOC-FM and 98.1 The Bridge (CKBD-FM) in Lethbridge, AB.

Vista rebranded 98.1 The Bridge to the 2day FM format in June, tweaking the station’s playlist to hit radio that crosses musical genres from the likes of AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Ed Sheeran, Queen, Taylor Swift and Imagine Dragons.

Murray Brookshaw, Vista’s vice-president of Content, says the 2day format has been well-received in Lethbridge.

“It’s been great, it’s such a unique music mix in that it’s got brand new material and then we really dip into the music of the 80s, 90s and 2000s that people love. It’s all kinds of different music…you can hear AC/DC’s Shook Me All Night Long back to back with Shawn Mendes,” Brookshaw told Broadcast Dialogue.

Brookshaw said Vista doesn’t have plans to expand the brand further right now. The radio group also has 2day FM-branded stations in Stratford, ON, Grande Prairie, AB, and Campbell River, BC, however their formats lean more toward contemporary hit radio.

The company has also announced the launch of digital news and information portal MyEastKootenayNow.com.

“Our philosophy in every one of our markets is live and local,” said Brookshaw. “We always want to be on top of what’s relevant and resonating in the market.”

Brookshaw said the station’s on-air lineup and staff will remain unchanged.

Vista now owns 43 radio stations and 35 digital news portals across B.C., Alberta, Ontario and the Northwest Territories
