Heading to WAB 2019? Here’s a preview of the 85th annual conference

Vanessa Ong

Submitted by Vanessa Ong, WAB association manager.

The 85th Annual Western Association of Broadcasters Conference is almost here. We’re thrilled to celebrate a milestone year for our association in the spectacular Rocky Mountains at the historic Fairmont Banff Springs from June 5-6.

Our WAB Golf Classic sponsored by Specialty Data Systems (SDS) is again a must-attend event with lots of fun activities in store for our golfers. That’s followed by a Welcome Reception & Dinner at the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course, a great kick-off event to meet with new and old industry friends.

We’ve assembled a fantastic speaker lineup for this year’s event. Joining us in Banff are keynote speakers — four-time Olympic champion Hayley Wickenheiser and Brad Wall, former Premier of Saskatchewan.

Rounding out the conference lineup is featured speaker Paul Jacobs of Jacobs Media and Dr. Peter Popplewell with Canopy Growth Corporation. We’re also looking forward to a timely town hall with Numeris and an industry update from Radio Connects.

After the conference sessions, join us for the CRTC Meet & Greet. Attended by Chairman Ian Scott, along with CRTC Commissioners and staff, the WAB is thrilled to continue with this tradition.

Peter Farfaras of NLogic and Linda Olsen, Global Calgary

Mix and mingle in the evening at the President’s Reception, sponsored by Canopy Growth Corporation. We cap things off with our President’s Dinner & Gold Medal Awards Gala, a terrific evening celebrating the best and brightest in Western Canadian broadcasting. The WAB Board of Directors is very proud to continue recognizing excellence in Prairie broadcasting. Helping us celebrate these achievements and milestones will be multi-CCMA and JUNO Award winning artist Jess Moskaluke, and our MC, Linda Olsen from Global Calgary. Thanks to the support of FACTOR it will be a special night as we induct Bob Ridley and Boyd Kozak into the 2019 WAB Hall of Fame.
