CBC News launched daily podcast Front Burner on Monday, hosted and produced by investigative journalist Jayme Poisson. A joint project with CBC Podcasts, the new podcast will be available as a daily download Monday to Friday at 6 a.m. ET.
According to a release, Front Burner aims to provide listeners “with a shortcut to a deeper understanding of the news of the day, from a distinctly Canadian perspective.”
“With a daily podcast we have the space for a more nuanced, detailed conversation,” said Poisson. “We will look at the questions and subtleties lying beneath the headlines and explore the big stories of the day with curiosity and original reporting.”
Prior to hosting Front Burner, Poisson spent eight years as a reporter for the Toronto Star, publishing stories that exposed ongoing mercury poisoning in Grassy Narrows First Nation, a lack of sexual assault policies on university campuses, and the ties between former Toronto mayor Rob Ford and alleged gang members. She has also reported from Egypt during the Arab Spring, as well as Kenya.
Nick McCabe-Lokos serves as executive producer, returning to news after leading teams for CBC Radio shows Quirks & Quarks, q, and Day 6.
According to data from Sumo Logic, CBC remains the #1 podcaster in Canada, with 16 million downloads per month. Recent investigative podcasts produced in partnership with CBC News include the award-winning Missing and Murdered: Finding Cleo and Uncover: Escaping NXIVM.
