Mirko Bibic has been named the new Chief Operating Officer for BCE Inc. and Bell Canada.
Current CEO and president George Cope was the last person to hold the COO title prior to taking the company’s top job in 2008.
Bibic, with the company since 2008, has been a key driver in the success of Bell’s broadband investment and innovation strategy as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development and Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer, overseeing the acquisitions of Astral Media and Manitoba Telecom Services Inc., among other investment initiatives.
Bibic was named 2017 Canadian General Counsel of the Year after leading BCE through several multi-billion dollar mergers and regulatory hearings.
“Mirko is a leader who delivers results, and he has played a critical role in Bell’s successful transformation into Canada’s broadband communications leader over the last decade,” said George Cope, BCE president and CEO. “As our COO, Mirko will apply his comprehensive understanding of Bell’s business and competitive landscape to drive further innovation and growth in our broadband wireless, Internet, TV and business communications services.”
Bell also announced the appointment of Wade Oosterman as Vice Chair of BCE and Bell Canada. In executive roles with the company for the last 12 years, Oosterman assumes a senior advisory and oversight role on the Bell executive team, in addition to his existing leadership of Bell Media as group president and Chief Brand Officer. Bell Media president Randy Lennox continues to report to Oosterman.
