102.1 the Edge debuts new morning show “The B Team”

102.1 the Edge (CFNY-FM) Toronto has launched the latest incarnation of its morning show, following brother-sister duo Ruby and Alex Carr’s release at the end of January.

Corus Entertainment has brought in The B Team” – it’s morning show team from Hamilton sister station Y108 (CJXY-FM)featuring hosts ShawnaChris Z and Jay Brody. With a combined 20 years experience at the station, Shawna and Chris Z have co-hosted various iterations of the morning show. The trio has been together since 2018 when they were joined by former SiriusXM host Brody.

Taz and Jim Kelly

As of today, the Y108 morning show slot is being filled by Taz & Jim (Chris George Taz and Jim Kelly), who will now be heard in both Hamilton and on FM96 (CFPL-FM) London, ON. They’ll be doing double duty, providing local traffic, news and updates for both markets.

“We’re really excited to bring edge back to the Edge with one of the country’s most bold morning shows in The B Team,” said Tammy Cole, Toronto/Hamilton Regional Program Director for Corus Radio, in a release. “To deliver that, as well as expand Taz & Jim – who as a duo have dominated in a major Ontario market for almost a decade – to Hamilton in their place is great news for listeners on both the Edge and Y.”

Since former morning host Dean Blundell’s indefinite suspension in Dec. 2013, following nine separate complaints to the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC) over the prior two years, the station has seemingly struggled to find its morning show rhythm.

Former midday and evening hosts Josie Dye and Greg Beharrell moved into mornings in March 2014, followed by another staff shuffle that saw Fearless Fred Kennedy bumped into the timeslot. By 2017, former weekend and swing hosts Melanie Mariani and Adam Ricard were hosting Edge Mornings with Melani & Adam, but their morning show reign would be short-lived. In Aug. 2018, Mariani and Ricard were were let go and Fearless Fred moved to afternoons on Q107 (CILQ-FM). Mornings with Ruby & Alex, featuring former CFOX-FM Vancouver midday host Alex Carr and his sister Ruby, former morning show co-host at Vancouver’s Z95.3 (CKZZ-FM), launched their show in Jan. 2019, lasting just one year.

According to Fall 2019 PPM data, the station captured just a 2.3 share, A12+.

The rest of the station lineup remains rounded out by Carly Meyers on middays, Kolter Bouchard and Meredith Geddes on afternoon drive, and evening announcer Kevin Getz.
