One of the longest-running broadcasting conferences in the country is set to host its 87th edition, June 7-8.
The Western Association of Broadcasters (WAB) returns to Banff Fairmont Springs with a speaking lineup that WAB President Brett Adnum says will both address challenges like consumer and advertiser competition, in addition to inspiring industry leaders with practical advice they can bring back to their teams.
Adnum says there will also be a focus on inspiring and building healthy teams.
“Jody Milburn [General Manager, Homefield People & Strategy] is going to talk a lot about mental health in the workplace. Not just the buzzwords, but how to build a mentally healthy workplace, so that it can affect your bottom line,” explained Adnum. “Dr. John Izzo will also be talking about inspiring performance and engagement from our teams.”
“When you think about the speaker lineup we have and the conference itself, it’s very geared towards management, leadership of our industry and how to bring out the best in everybody,” said Adnum.
Despite this year’s conference overlapping with the inaugural Radiodays North America event during Canadian Music Week in Toronto, Adnum says they are expecting attendance of at least 100 executives, up from last year, including representation from Harvard Media, Golden West Broadcasting, Vista Radio, Rawlco Radio, Corus Entertainment, and Stingray.
“I think they are very different conferences, but I’d go back to the lineup that we’ve put together…if you’re leading teams or you’re leading people or you are aspiring to connect with executives, owners, managers of radio and tv stations, this is where they will be. I think the conference will have a ton of value for you and you’ll have very practical things you can bring back that you can use and apply,” said Adnum, acknowledging that WAB historically is known for its intimate atmosphere.
He added that the Banff Fairmont Springs is sold out, as is golf registration for the event. Last minute registrants are urged to contact the association at info@wab.ca.
