ICON Radio went live at noon Friday on CKAY-FM Sechelt on B.C.’s Sunshine Coast. Formerly branded as Coast FM, Vista says 91.7 ICON Radio is about celebrating the icons of music, “from the classic hits that shaped radio’s foundations, to one hit wonders, to unforgettable anthems.” Programming will also include artist spotlights and musical history segments.

In addition to longtime Rock 101 (CFMI-FM) morning man Brother Jake and former CFOX music director and AM 650 (CISL-AM) personality Gerry O’Day, the on-air lineup includes CKLW Windsor and CKXL Calgary alum Gentleman Jim Jackson, and Barb Montgomery.

“This is an exciting day for us at Vista Radio and for music lovers on the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island,” said Bryan Edwards, President of Vista Radio, in a company announcement “91.7 ICON Radio is not just a radio station; it’s a celebration of musical genius from across eras. We’re thrilled to bring a station to the airwaves that honours the icons of music, offering our listeners an unmatched audio experience.”

The station’s launch day playlist meandered from The Irish Rovers, Rod Stewart and Gordon Lightfoot to The Outfield, Heart, Thin Lizzy, Crowbar, and The Band, among many other artists.
