TVO taps former CFL commissioner Jeffrey Orridge as CEO

Former CBC Sports executive and CFL commissioner Jeffrey L. Orridge has been named the new CEO of TVO, effective Nov. 30.

Former CFL commissioner and CBC Sports executive Jeffrey L. Orridge has been named the new CEO of TVO, effective Nov. 30.

Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce and TVO Board Chair Chris Day announced the appointment Tuesday. Orridge most recently had been Chairman of Toronto-based Tiidal Gaming. He succeeds Lisa de Wilde, TVO’s longest serving CEO, who stepped down at the end of 2019 after 14 years at the helm of the public broadcaster.

“When our Board set out in search of an ideal candidate, we cast a wide net to find an experienced executive leader with the energy and vision to propel TVO to new heights. Jeffrey is that person,” said Day, in a release. “His passion for, experience with, and interest in technology, media, and learning – all areas where TVO must excel in the years to come – will ensure we continue to serve learners in exciting new ways, when and wherever they need us.”

In the same release, Orridge indicated that he has designs on elevating TVO’s digital presence and audience.

“From harnessing and leveraging technological advances, to expanding TVO’s products and offerings, to connecting with audiences and communities so we can create social impact together, I look forward to working with the Board and the team at TVO to take our transformation to the next level,” said Orridge.

Jennifer Hinshelwood had been serving as TVO’s Acting Chief Operating Officer since de Wilde’s departure in late 2019, while the executive search was underway.
