Travis Dhanraj has been named the incoming host of CBC News daily prime time program, Canada Tonight, starting in January.
Dhanraj succeeds Ginella Massa, who departed CBC News Network over the summer. Most recently with CBC consumer affairs program Marketplace, Dhanraj returned to CBC in 2021 as a senior reporter in the Parliamentary Bureau, after serving as Global News’ Queen’s Park Bureau Chief. He had previously worked as a reporter for the public broadcaster in Toronto and Edmonton between 2011 and 2014, and prior to that was a producer for Entertainment Tonight Canada and CBC, in addition to reporting and anchoring for CP24 and CTV News.
CBC says Canada Tonight will retain its recently-expanded two hour format, airing from 7 to 9 p.m. ET.
“Travis’s engaging curiosity and incredible range of experience allows him to translate complex stories into personal terms and help audiences make sense of the news, which will be key as Canada Tonight sharpens its focus on stories that matter at home and make a difference in this country,” said Andree Lau, Senior Director of Streaming and Publishing, in a CBC News announcement. “In addition to extending Canada Tonight to two hours, we are also expanding our essential live and breaking news on CBC News Network on weekday afternoons and weekends led by a remarkable group of hosts who will help us better respond, reflect and report on what matters most to Canadians.”

CBC News Network has introduced a new afternoon show, co-hosted by Andrew Nichols from Toronto and Hannah Thibedeau in Ottawa, weekdays from 1–5 p.m. ET.
Marianne Dimain has also joined CBC News Network as weekend morning host, in addition to contributing to breaking news coverage on Morning Live, Monday to Wednesday. Dimain left Global Toronto last month after 13 years. As previously reported, Deana Sumanac-Johnson also expands her role as CBC News’ senior education reporter, hosting network programming on Saturday and Sunday evenings.
