Veteran radio announcer Tom McGouran is returning to morning radio in Winnipeg, joining Corus Entertainment’s Peggy@99.1 as the station’s new morning show host, starting July 4.
“The station was looking for someone with a great attitude, loads of experience, heavy community involvement, a distinct presence on and off the air, and Tom easily checks all the boxes,” said Program Manager David Drake, in a Corus Radio announcement. “You would be hard-pressed to find anyone who loves the industry more.”
McGouran has been helming mornings in the Winnipeg market, on and off, since 1982. He’s best known as one-half of successful morning duos “Tom and Larry” and “Tom and Joe,” alongside Larry Updike, and Joe Aiello, respectively.
Tom and Larry had a six-year run at Power 97 (CJKR-FM), before crossing the street to 92 CITI FM in 1988. They were unable to replicate their success in Vancouver, where after a brief stint in mornings on Rock 101 (CFMI-FM), they quickly took the station from second place to sixth in one ratings period. McGouran returned to 92 CITI FM within the year, this time alongside Aiello where the duo went on to host the morning show for the next 18 years.
McGouran was most recently heard in mornings on Pattison Media’s 94.3 The Drive, accompanied by co-host Vicki Shae, until the station’s rebrand as NOW! Radio (CHNW-FM) in fall 2021.
“I’ve been privileged and lucky to have a long and successful career on and I’m super excited to continue that by hosting mornings on Peggy,” said McGouran. “There is going to be great music and lots of laughs!”
