Stingray Charlottetown is mourning the passing of longtime Ocean 100 (CHTN-FM) morning show co-host Kerri Wynne MacLeod on Sunday, following an ongoing illness. She was 57.
Originally from Montague, MacLeod was a local stage performer and singer, prior to joining Newcap Radio in 2001. She helped launch the Ocean 100 morning show, alongside longtime co-host Kirk MacKinnon in 2006, when CHTN launched on FM. As MacKinnon announced his retirement from the show on Feb. 17 as he seeks the provincial Progressive Conservative nomination in District 5, Mermaid-Stratford, Director of Operations Jennifer Evans shared with listeners that their “hearts were heavy with worry” for Kerri Wynne, who was in critical condition in hospital.
“Kerri Wynne was always her true authentic self on and off the air. The person you listened to every morning was the same person you would meet at the grocery store,” said Evans. “She took time to talk and listen to everyone she met and she cared deeply for Prince Edward Island.”
“Kerri Wynne had the unique ability to connect with listeners in a deeply personal way,” added Steve Jones, Stingray’s Vice President of Talent, Brands & Content. “She was a rare talent and she will be dearly missed by our team across Canada, and by the entire Canadian radio industry.”
Ocean 100 will air a special tribute and celebration of Kerri Wynne MacLeod’s broadcasting career and life, starting Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. AT.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Holland College Foundation for the Olivia Ruth MacLeod Memorial Award for Music Performance.
