Rogers news radio stations announce ‘CityNews’ rebrand date

Rogers Sports & Media news radio stations have announced the date they will officially rebrand under the CityNews banner.

Starting Oct. 18, the so-called “green brand” stations in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Kitchener, and Halifax, will align their branding with CityNews across all platforms to become CityNews 680, CityNews 1130, CityNews 660, CityNews 570, and CityNews 95.7.

Previously announced in June, the stations join CityNews Ottawa (CIWW-AM, formerly 1310 News), which Rogers moved to rebrand last December and simulcast on the FM frequency formerly used by Country 101.1 (CKBY-FM).

Rogers previously stated that the Ottawa rebrand resulted in a 31% lift in digital listening year-over-year and a 37% increase in “first preference” choice by local audiences, according to Leanstream data it provided. The Numeris Spring ratings release also saw the station earn its highest listening share since fall 2013.

The rebrand encompasses unified websites and apps across both radio and television.

“Rest assured, while our name and look will be updated, you will still get the same trusted information from our team of award-winning reporters and anchors that you have come to rely on, including all the latest breaking news, traffic and weather. We will also be unveiling a new website and merging our social handles together so you can easily find all your local news,” states an announcement posted to the respective station websites. “We know there are endless choices for you to get your news, and we need to ensure that we’re evolving to continue offering you the best experience for decades to come – whether it’s on the radio, TV, online, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, smart speakers or in app.”
