Radio Trailblazers, which has been advocating for the advancement of women in radio since 2005, has rebranded as Trailblazers, expanding its reach to include women across radio, television and podcasting.
“For years, Radio Trailblazers has proudly celebrated the remarkable achievements of women in radio. As the media landscape continues to evolve, we recognize the importance of honouring women making significant strides across all areas of broadcasting” said Nancy Brown Dacko, Trailblazers’ Chairperson, in a release.
As part of the rebrand, Trailblazers is introducing the Trailblazer Award (formerly dubbed the Rosalie Award, in honour of pioneering CKLW music director Rosalie Trombley) to be presented annually to a woman in broadcasting who has made a significant impact on the industry in Canada. The organization says the award will recognize a trailblazer—someone who has not only forged a successful career but has also paved the way for others, demonstrated exceptional leadership, and contributed meaningfully to the industry’s growth and evolution.
The inaugural Trailblazer Award will be presented during Radiodays North America at the upcoming Departure Festival + Conference, where the Trailblazers will also present a panel.
Nominations for the 2025 Trailblazer Award are invited, starting March 4, open to a deserving woman working in any facet of broadcasting or podcasting, from on-air talent, and those in sales, management, and engineering roles to producers, journalists, directors and digital media innovators.
The recipient will be selected based on six key criteria:
- Career Success – A proven track record of professional excellence.
- Leadership Qualities – A recognized leader who has influenced and inspired others.
- Innovation – A visionary who has introduced new ideas, approaches, or strategies.
- Multi-Platform Success – A professional who has excelled across digital and traditional media.
- Spirit of Generosity – Someone who gives back to the industry and community.
- Mentorship – A guiding force for emerging talent in broadcasting.
