OUTtv expands with launch of linear channel in South Africa

OUTtv, the Canadian-headquartered LGBTQ+ television and streaming service, is expanding with the launch of a linear channel in South Africa.

Offered on Openview Ultra, a new Pay TV offering with a subscriber base encompassing three million homes, OUTtv has previously experimented with pop-up channels in the South African market in 2018 and 2020 on DSTv and Showmax, respectively.

“We want to bring OUTtv’s original, life-affirmingly queer content to communities across the globe, and we’re excited to now have a permanent home in South Africa with Openview, after two successful limited runs in the territory,” said Brad Danks, CEO of OUTtv, in a release. “We know this market is ready for diverse, inclusive storytelling, and we look forward to making our content available.”

The new 24-hour linear channel officially launched earlier this week as part of the “Ultraview Pride Bouquet” with its content including OUTtv originals like drag competition “Call Me Mother,” reality dating show “Finding Prince Charming,” and a series of one-hour documentaries from new and established LGBTQ+ filmmakers, among other programming.

South Africa further expands OUTtv’s reach as the channel continues to move into new territories and platforms. Already available in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand, OUTtv is available as an Apple TV channel in the U.S. and Canada, on Amazon Prime in Canada and Australia, and as a Roku channel in the U.S.
