Neetu Garcha, joins Global National as its new correspondent, starting May 9.

Neetu Garcha

Garcha has been with Corus Entertainment since 2013, working as a producer and anchor at 980 CKNW Vancouver while still studying Broadcast Journalism at BCIT. She went on to intern with Global Okanagan in 2014 where she worked for two years, before joining the Vancouver Island bureau as a video journalist. She joined Global BC in 2017 where she is currently the weekday News Hour reporter and anchor of Global News Hour at 6 on weekends.

Originally from Penticton, BC, Garcha has carved out a reputation for navigating political double speak, including her dogged 2021 interview with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in which he admonished the journalist for not asking “the right questions.” She recently traveled to Rome to cover the Indigenous delegation meeting with Pope Francis, and has covered everything from the B.C. wildfire season to the refugee crisis in Greece. She was also the producer and writer behind Season 3 Crime Beat episode, Forbidden Love: The Murder of Jassi Sidhu.

Garcha was the recipient of the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters (BCAB) Broadcast Performer of Tomorrow award in 2018 and was a finalist for the 2021 Jack Webster Foundation Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion Reporting award for her coverage of the India farmers’ protest and its impact on British Columbians.

“We’re so pleased to have Neetu joining the national team,” said Ingrid Bakewell, National Director of Networking Programming, in an announcement from Corus Entertainment. “Neetu is an extremely talented and passionate journalist whose dedication to accountability is well known to our viewers in British Columbia. We’re so happy our audiences across the country will soon have the opportunity to see her in action.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Global National team and taking my journalistic passions for seeking accountability from those in positions of power and my love of amplifying historically marginalized voices through diversity and inclusion reporting to a broader platform, while recognizing our role in reconciliation,” said Garcha.

Garcha succeeds Robin Gill, who left Global in December after 21 years to join Vancouver PR agency, Talk Shop Media.
