Who we’re looking for:
Breakfast Television, Canada’s #1 Morning Show, is looking for a full-time News Anchor to lead daily newscasts in a live, four-hour morning show. The successful candidate will share a hunger to report on current events and excel in chasing, writing and producing on a deadline. As a senior member of the on-air team, our Anchor is expected to provide context and expertise to some of the day’s biggest news stories while satisfying the morning thirst for information.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Supervising Producer and News Producer to develop daily news packs and conceptualize the best stories that fit within the cadence of a morning show. They will have strong news competency, extensive contacts, and unmatched editorial judgment. An inherent leader, this candidate will also be willing to direct guest chases (often at the last minute) and guide associate producers and writers through best processes to make the show as strong as possible.
You will bring unique ideas, relentless passion, and a willingness to think outside the box. You are unafraid to ask the tough questions while upholding the journalistic values of Rogers Sports and Media. You will commit to creating engaging, informative and unparalleled content.
What you will do…
Anchor daily show on-air from 6:00am EST to 10:00am EST
Attend morning meetings as of 3:30am and after the show at 10am and 11am
Working with the News Producer, help guide the news focus of the day
Support in coordination and booking of guests in live show environment
Work with producers and writers to chase developing stories before, during and after the show
Occasionally vet scripts
Report and file stories for air
Commit to regular social media posts and updates about the stories on BT
Ideate, discuss and present non-news related content on the show with other hosts
Support the on-air flow of BT between lifestyle, entertainment and news content
Attending daily meetings before and after the show
Other duties as assigned
What you will bring…
Proven experience in TV news reporting and anchoring
Creative vision and strong editorial judgment
Superior writing, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Strong fact-checking competency
Willingness to work an early morning shift that begins as early as 3:30am
Flexible availability in instances of breaking news
An open mind and teamwork-focused attitude
