Jill Krop, BC Regional Director of Global News, steps down

Jill Krop is stepping down from her role as BC Regional Director of Global News, ending a 23-year career with the network. Corus says her last day managing the newsrooms at Global BC, Global Okanagan and 980 CKNW is Sept. 30.

Krop, a fixture in the Vancouver market, started her 35-year career at Global BC predecessor BCTV in 1986, while she was still studying broadcast journalism at BCIT.

Krop went on to work at CKPG Prince George and then the Atlantic Satellite Network (ASN) in Halifax, before returning to the West Coast and CHEK-TV Victoria in the mid-1990s. She re-joined BCTV in 1997 as host of Wake UP. She’s since anchored news across every daypart, including a decade with News Hour Final, and hosted daily talk show, Unfiltered, at the launch of all news channel, BC1.

In 2015, Krop was named News Director of Global BC and BC1, eventually also overseeing the CKNW and Global Okanagan newsrooms.

“Throughout her career, Jill has always been a fierce advocate for local news. She has been a trusted voice for viewers and a respected leader in the newsroom. Under her watch, Global BC has cemented its place at the top of the ratings, taken home major awards nationally and internationally and has continued to lead innovation in an ever-changing industry,” said Ward Smith, Senior Vice President, Global News, in a release. “Through all of these successes, Jill has been a caring leader and a mentor to her team.  We will all miss her humour, drive and passion for news.”

“This is a remarkable news organization of talented individuals who come together every day to inform and educate British Columbians,” added Krop. “I am honoured to have been a part of it for the past 23 years.”
