The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS) has announced the nominees for the 28th Annual Webby Awards, honouring excellence on the internet and influential creators and brands driving conversations at the intersection of tech and culture.
The Webby Awards received 13,000 entries from over 70 countries around the world. Leading nominations this year are PBS (20), Warner Bros. Discovery (18), Audible (16), Netflix (14), CNN (13), Paramount (11), iHeartMedia (11), The Washington Post (11), MTV Entertainment (11), TenderfootTV (5) and WaitWhat (4).
Among the Canadian nominees are actress and broadcaster Madison Tevlin for Down Syndrome is the Least Interesting Thing About Me in the Best Creator, Features (Social) category, as well as Best Influencer.
Tevlin is best known for her CBC Gem talk show talk show Who Do You Think I Am?, for which she received a Canadian Screen Award nomination last year for Best Host in a Talk Show or Entertainment Series. She was also one of the stars of 2023 feature film Champions, alongside Woody Harrelson.
Toronto creative consultancy Leo Burnett received a nod for The Watch, the first gaming community watch fighting racism, in the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Social Campaigns (Social) category.
Pacific Content received two nominations, one for Morgan Stanley’s What Should I Do With My Money, which is up for Best Branded Podcast or Segment. Mozilla’s IRL: Online Life is Real Life is an honouree in the Best Series category.
JAR Audio and Vancouver’s Chop Theatre are also nominated for Handsome Molly, their scripted adventure-romance podcast collaboration set in the Gulf Islands, nominated for Best Scripted Fiction Podcast. JAR Audio-produced redefiners: A Russell Reynolds Associates Leadership Podcast is up for Individual Episode recognition in the Business category.
Vancouver’s Kelly&Kelly also received an Individual Episode Scripted (Fiction) nomination for Supreme: The Battle for Roe.
CBC News: Front Burner is nominated in the Podcasts – Limited Series & Specials, Business category for its The Naked Emperor series on the Pornhub empire. CBC Podcasts’ The No Good, Terribly Kind, Wonderful Lives and Tragic Deaths of Honey and Barry Sherman received a nomination in the Crime & Justice category, while The Africas vs. America is up in Documentary. CBC Kids’ Reporting 101 Misinformation – MineCraft Education received a nod in the AI, Metaverse & Virtual – General Metaverse Experiences (Science & Education).
Montreal’s Felix + Paul Studios is nominated in the AI category for its Space Explorers: Blue Marble Trilogy, which received a second nomination for Best VR Headset Experience.
