Jamie Mauracher takes on new role as Global News’ dedicated health reporter

Global News is introducing a dedicated journalist to cover health across the network’s digital and broadcast platforms as Ontario extends its stay-at-home order and the number of variant COVID-19 cases continues to rise across the country, one year into the pandemic.

Global Toronto journalist Jamie Mauracher will step into the newly-created role of Digital Broadcast Journalist, Health. Starting Monday, May 3, Mauracher will be seen across the network and on Global’s 24-hour news streaming service via Amazon Prime Video Channels and the Global TV app

“The pandemic has shifted people’s priorities,” said Mauracher, in a release. “Health is now a main concern for Canadians but we aren’t just talking about physical and mental well-being. People want to know more about the policies that impact their care. I am excited to take on a role which will allow us to take a deeper dive into those questions, while updating viewers on the ever-changing world of health, science and technology.”

“In the midst of a global pandemic, the importance of strong fact-based health reporting has never been more vital,” added Chris Bassett, Acting VP, National & Network News. “Jamie brings a wealth of experience to her new role and her ability to explain complex stories and seek answers and accountability will be an incredible asset to our audiences.”

Mauracher has been with Global Toronto since 2018. The Ryerson Journalism graduate started her career at CJDC-TV in Dawson Creek, BC, going on to report for
Global Peterborough, Citytv Winnipeg, CBC Saskatchewan, CBC Newfoundland and Labrador, CTV Calgary and CTV Toronto.
