JACK 103.1 makes its return to Vancouver Island

Rogers has reintroduced the JACK FM format to Vancouver Island.

KiSS 103.1 (CHTT-FM) Victoria rebranded to JACK 103.1 on Thursday, the format the station held prior to its Feb. 2015 flip to modern hit radio.

The move comes just over a week after the station released its on-air staff including morning show hosts Dez Fernando and Jay Hatton, and Johnny Novak, who hosted afternoon drive. It was the second on-air sweep in less than a year with former morning show hosts Vanessa Chiu and Tyler Barr, and afternoon announcer Bailey Parker caught up in a station revamp in Nov. 2018.

Later this month, JACK Mornings with David & Heather, co-hosted by David Larsen and Heather Backman, will make its debut with Larsen also filling the role of program director. Up until July, Larsen co-hosted the morning show on Kelowna classic rock station K96.3 (CKKO-FM) with Tony Peyton for a decade, and served as program director.

Heather Backman

Backman joins JACK from 100.3 The Q (CKKQ-FM) Victoria, where she co-hosted the afternoon drive show. Prior to that, she was part of the CHOM 97.7 Montreal morning show.

“Having followed the radio industry here in B.C., I know that 103.1 has deep roots in Victoria serving the community for the past two decades.  I’m excited to be part of the station’s evolution, taking it to the next level with our listeners,” said Larsen.

To support the rebrand, Rogers Media will roll out a local digital and outdoor ad campaign in Victoria.

Thursday’s rebrand expands the JACK brand to six stations nationally with the station joining Halifax, London, Smiths Falls, Calgary, and Vancouver.
