Harvard Media makes layoffs in Edmonton

Harvard Media is undertaking restructuring as George Leith, the company’s newly-appointed Executive Vice-President and Managing Partner, takes the helm of the Saskatchewan-headquartered media group.

Layoffs hit the Edmonton cluster this week, including Program Director Chris Myers, who had been with Play 107 (CKPW-FM) and 95.7 CRUZ FM (CKEA-FM) for the past seven and a half years. Myers’ purview also included serving as PD for Kraze 101.3 (CKIK-FM) Red Deer.

Jenna Winterburn

The midday hosts on both Edmonton stations, Jenna Winterburn, who was heard on Play 107, and Derek Allen, who helmed the midday show on CRUZ FM, were also casualties, as was producer Seth Hennig

The company, which owns a network of 13 radio stations across Alberta and Saskatchewan, tells Broadcast Dialogue it will have more to say on Friday.

In addition to Leith’s recent appointment, Harvard has hired John J. Jordan as the company’s new Chief Digital Officer. Jordan has previously held senior positions, including Director of Digital Revenue at McClatchy, Executive Vice President at Vendasta, and Vice President of Partner Success and Product at TownNews. He’s tasked with leading Harvard Media’s digital strategy, driving revenue growth and digital audiences, and overseeing all digital operations, including interactive and digital solutions.
