Fanshawe College is the latest post-secondary institution to announce it’s suspending numerous programs amid a sharp decline in enrolment, including Broadcasting – Radio & Media Production, Journalism – Television and Digital News, and Advanced Live Digital Media Production.
The London, ON-based school, which also has campuses in Simcoe, Woodstock and St. Thomas, is among the schools downsizing its offerings following a 35% reduction in the number of international students allowed into the country.
President Peter Devlin told staff in February that the college is facing a $35 million deficit this year, set to almost double by 2026 as first-year international student enrolment plummeted 41% from the 2024 winter semester and steeper drops anticipated.
According to Fanshawe’s website, it appears the Broadcasting – Television & Film Production, Advanced Filmmaking, Digital Communication Management, Interactive Media Design, Journalism – Multimedia, and Visual Effects and Editing for Contemporary Media programs are taking students for the upcoming fall semester.
The move comes as other Ontario post-secondary schools announce their program reduction plans, including Humber College, which told faculty and students last week it is suspending its Broadcasting – Radio program after five decades.
