I AM CANADA: A Deep Dive on Newcomers’ Journey to Canada – Expectations and Reality

As part of nabs November DEI programming, please join Peter Forde, and Nileen Ventura from Publicis Media DE&I Centre of Excellence who will share the highlights from their I AM CANADA: A Deep Dive on Newcomers’ Journey to Canada – Expectations and Reality.
The I AM CANADA study surveyed 500 Newcomers about their experiences and journey to Canada with real, human experiences and stories about the challenges of sourcing employment, making friends and dealing with the reality of Canadian winters.
Peter and Nileen will also share their personal stories with us and we will touch on the following provocative areas during the presentation:
- What are the implications for employers? Clients? Newcomers?
- What gaps are we seeing? How can we help mitigate the barriers faced by Newcomers in our industry?
- What are the mental health impacts for Newcomers and new hires?
Louise Berube, nabs Director of Allocations and Services will highlight nabs progress with its Newcomer Employment Success Program (NESP) (launched in June 2022), and announce planned expansions to the program in 2023 which will help bridge some of the knowledge gaps newcomers to our industry are experiencing and offer additional Canadian industry knowledge, context and support to Newcomers who are already employed in our industry (as highlighted by the Newcomer respondents in the I AM CANADA study) with the goal of providing them with the inside knowledge, tools and resources they need to advance their careers, feel a sense of belonging and hope.
