Erin Davis to be inducted into Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame

Longtime CHFI Toronto host Erin Davis will be a 2020 inductee of the Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame.

Canadian Music Week (CMW) has officially announced that radio host Erin Davis will be a 2020 inductee of the Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame

Originally from Edmonton, but raised in Ottawa, Trenton and England, Davis studied Radio Broadcasting at Loyalist College in Belleville, ON. By her second year in the program, she was hosting a radio show on CIGL-FM in the afternoon and playing piano at a local restaurant in the evening.

Following stops at CFRA Ottawa, CKLW Windsor, and CKO Toronto, Davis landed at CHFI 981.FM Toronto in 1988. Her initial 28 year-run with the station started in news during the popular Daynard Drive-in. She soon became Don Daynard’s co-host through his retirement in 1999. Davis then hosted with Bob Magee until 2003, when the station decided to take the morning show in another direction.

Davis went on to host her own TV talk show for the W network, W Live with Erin Davis, for one season. She returned to mornings on CHFI in 2005, alongside new co-host Mike Cooper.

Davis made the decision to retire in 2016 about 18 months after her daughter Lauren, 24, died suddenly in May 2015. She has since penned memoir, Mourning Has Broken: Love, Loss & Reclaiming Joy, which was released in Feb. 2019 and will have its soft cover launch Feb. 18. Davis is also an avid blogger.

“We are proud to welcome Erin Davis to the Canadian Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame. Throughout her career, Erin has commanded a loyal fanbase who have followed her from the airwaves, to screen, stage and online. From tragedy to triumph, she has welcomed us into her life and put her heart on her sleeve, which makes her one of Canada’s most loved broadcasters,” said CMW president Neill Dixon, in a release.

Davis will be honoured at the annual Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards Gala at Bluma Appel Theatre in Toronto on Thursday, May 21 during Canadian Music Week, May 19–23.
