DGC’s list of top new Canadian filmmakers to watch

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) has announced its Discovery Long-List, highlighting the top new Canadian filmmakers to watch.

“These directors are part of an exciting new wave in Canadian cinema,” said Manny Danelon, chair of the DGC Awards Committee. “You are going to hear people buzzing about these films at TIFF and festivals around the world over the next year.”

Among those making this year’s list are Carly Stone.  Her debut, rom-com The New Romantic, opened at SXSW where she received Special Jury Recognition for First Feature.

First-time feature directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein are also among the Discovery Award nominees. Their indie sci-fi offering Freaks, starring Emile Hirsch, is currently screening at TIFF.
